Zuzo vs Upwork: hiring a freelancer or a website team
Upwork is the largest marketplace for hiring freelancers, and plenty of good websites are built through it. If you are deciding between an Upwork web designer and a studio for your next site, the real difference is not talent. It is who plans the project, who manages it and who is still around after launch.
Choose Zuzo if

- You want the same people looking after the site after launch

Where they fit better
When Upwork is the better choice
- 01
Small, well defined jobs
A landing page from an existing design, a WordPress fix or a few illustrations are quick to scope and quick to hire for.
- 02
Huge choice
You can compare portfolios, rates and reviews across many freelancers and pick exactly the skill you need.
- 03
Low starting cost
Hourly contracts let you start small and stop at any point, which suits a tight or uncertain budget.
03Where we differ
What you get with Zuzo instead
- 01
One team, one plan
You do not hire a designer, a developer and an SEO separately and hope they agree. Strategy, design and build are planned together from day one.
How we work - 02
A system, not a set of pages
We build your site from a documented component library, so your team can add pages later without hiring someone new each time.
Design systems - 03
Still here after launch
A retainer keeps the same senior people on your site each month for new pages, tests and audits.

04Switching
Moving from Upwork to Zuzo
- Step 01
Send us what exists
Half finished designs, a staging site or code from a freelancer. We review it in discovery and keep whatever is sound.
- Step 02
A fixed plan and price
Discovery ends with a sitemap, a stack and a fixed price for each phase, so the scope stops moving.
- Step 03
Launch and hand over
We launch in stages, move every account into your name and train your team to publish.
05FAQ
Zuzo or Upwork: common questions
Something else on your mind? Email the studio and a designer, not a salesperson, replies within a day.
Should I hire a web designer on Upwork or use a studio?
For a small, clearly defined job with someone in house to manage it, an Upwork freelancer is often the cheaper and faster choice. For a full website where strategy, design, build and SEO need to fit together, a studio saves you the work of hiring and coordinating several people.
Is a studio more expensive than an Upwork freelancer?
The day rate is usually higher. The total is often closer than it looks once you add separate hires for design, development and SEO, plus your own time managing them. Our pricing is flexible and based on the project, with a fixed price for each phase.
Can Zuzo finish a site an Upwork freelancer started?
Yes. We review the existing design and code during discovery, keep what is sound and give you a fixed price to finish and launch it.
Who owns the website when Zuzo builds it?
You do. At handover you receive the full source code, design files and every account in your own name, with no licence fee.
